Agrias aedon is a scarce species of Charaxine Nymphalid. It is a poorly known species and seldom seen. Unlike most Agrias the red on the forewing shows quite visibly on the underside.
Distribution[]
It is endemic to South America.
Habitat[]
The species lives in the canopy of tropical wet rainforests, often near water sources.
The subspecies aedon is found in forests of altitudes 600-1200 metres.
Habits and Behaviour[]
The species usually stays high in the forest but occasionally flies down for feeding or puddling.

This butterfly has multiple subspecies.
- A. b. aedon (Colombia, Venezuela and Panama)
- A. b. rodriguezi (Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica)
- A. b. denhezi
- A. b. schultzei (syn. magdalenae (Colombia))
